Let’s face it. Life is messy, and cluttered, and sticky fingered. From charging stations to drop zones by the back door, for years we’ve featured some unique ways to help keep the chaos managed in your new Demlang home.
The shift from formal living rooms and formal dining spaces towards great rooms and eat-in kitchen areas has left many people looking for another space in the home where clutter can accumulate, families and schedules can be managed, and where life can “happen.” That was the inspiration behind the Demlang “Family Command Center.”
Our 2016 MBA Parade of Homes Model The Dakota was the first Demlang home to showcase this amazing laundry, mud room, and office mashup. It was a such a hit that we brought it back in our 2017 Parade Model, The Finley.
So what exactly will you find in a Command Center? Here’s some of the top features that our customers are loving…
Size and Layout
The typical laundry, pocket office, or mud room is designed more like a hallway, making it difficult for more than a few people to be in the space at one time. Our Command Centers are sized closer to a typical bedroom, allowing for the space to be shared across many functions.
Natural Light
Both the Dakota and the Finley’s Command Centers are positioned at the front of the house with lots of windows. Not only does this provide a great way to check on the kids drawing with chalk in the driveway, it also allows for a lot of natural light. Whether you are working on a craft project with the kids or trying to get a stubborn stain out of your favorite shirt, you’ll appreciate the sunshine!
Garage Access
When life is busy we tend to forget things unless they are right in front of our faces! Busy families appreciate that the Command Center is positioned right by the back door near the garage, so hockey equipment, the science fair project, and your briefcase are there as you leave…or when you run back home to get them!
Laundry
More than just a laundry room, the Command Center is a place for laundry day! With washer, dryer, ample folding space, and room for your ironing, there’s no staging baskets in the hallway or balancing piles of towels on top of the dryer anymore.
Utility Sink
As much as we love them, husbands have a tendency to walk straight from changing the oil in the car right into the guest bathroom to wash their hands. And don’t get us started on glitter from the homemade holiday cards! Leave the grime and glue sticks in the Command Center where they belong!
Office/Work Space
A formal office is great if you work from home a lot or have extra square footage to dedicate, but it isn’t a reality for every family or every floorplan. What’s more, sometimes all it takes is for the kids to have a homework area that doesn’t have the distractions of TV or their bedroom. The Command Center is positioned just off the kitchen in both homes, so you can keep an eye on them while they work.
Pet Care
Pets are wonderful, but they are often underfoot. One central place for their gear, food, toys, and even crates is a great use of space in the Command Center. Check out the Dakota’s dog wash – a great way to save your back from bending over in the tub after a long romp in the mud.
Lockers & Storage
And, what new Demlang home is complete without ample storage? Everyone has their own locker, helping you avoid mismatched mittens and, of course, the evil cross contamination of boy and girl germs. Sometimes it’s the simple things in life that make it the most manageable!
